The techniques we’ve covered in this mini course have the potential to transform your approach to improvisation.
When you learn how to manipulate tension and resolution in your playing, you move beyond predictable phrasing and can create solos that are varied, interesting and which effectively tell a story.
This can only happen however, if you dig into each of these ideas in detail.
So as always, don’t rush through these concepts.
The real magic will happen when you spend time with each of the intervals outlined in these lessons, experiment with different ways to create and resolve tension, and listen carefully to how each interval choice affects the emotional impact of your phrases.
When you do this, you will create:
- More interesting solos that are less predictable and which keep you and your audience engaged
- A connected, coherent feel in your playing and a greater sense of flow from phrase to phrase
- Improved fretboard knowledge as you discover where to find each of the intervals
You’ll also develop your ear and improve your ability to recognise tension and resolution, and target these different ideas consciously.
Developing this new style of phrasing will take time, but if you dedicate some time and mental energy to it every time you practice, you’ll soon be soloing in a totally different style.
Good luck!
Let me know how you get on with it, and I’ll see you in the next one! 😁
