Creating Solos With The Major Pentatonic Scale

Creating Solos With The Major Pentatonic Scale

Learn how to mix the major and minor pentatonic scales to create more varied and interesting solos

COURSE OVERVIEW

Creating Solos With The Major Pentatonic Scale

The major pentatonic scale has a totally different sound compared to the minor pentatonic and minor blues scales.

As such, implementing the scale in your solos will help you to broaden your musical vocabulary whilst creating a different sound and feel in your playing.

It will give you access to a much broader range of sounds, and will help you to create more interesting and varied guitar solos.

It will also allow to create a warmer and more upbeat blues sound, in the style of guitarists like B.B. King, Duane Allman and Eric Clapton, amongst others.

So, if you feel comfortable with the minor pentatonic scale and want to move into different and more complex material, this is the course for you.

What you will learn:

PART 1

To begin with, we will define a simple framework that will be the focus of this course and which will allow you to start using the scale in your playing

PART 2

In this first lesson you will learn how to mix the major pentatonic scale into your ‘go-to’ licks in the first shape of the pentatonic scale

PART 3

Moving on, we will look at the ‘Albert King Box’ and how you can target a major pentatonic sound in this section of the fretboard

PART 4

Here we will study another ‘King Of The Blues’ as we look at the B.B. King Box and how you can use this to create a warm, major pentatonic sound

PART 5

Moving up the fretboard, we will look at ways you can target the major pentatonic sound in the the fourth and pentatonic scale shape

PART 6

Here you will learn how to move fluidly between notes of the major and minor pentatonic scales in the fifth shape of the scale

PART 7

Now that you know how to target the major pentatonic scale in 5 positions on the fretboard, we can look at how to connect these ideas and bring them together

PART 8

In the final lesson of this course, we will cover some additional points you need to keep in mind with the major pentatonic scale that will help you to craft killer improvisations

My story

I have played guitar for over 20 years and have loved blues music for almost just as long.

5 years ago – after getting complacent with my practice and playing – I decided I wanted to push on and develop as a guitarist.

I couldn’t find the detailed, blues focused resources that I wanted to learn from online, so I created the Happy Bluesman.

I have since gone on to work with hundreds of blues guitarists all over the world through the Blues Club and 1-2-1 coaching.
