Mini Solos

Learn mini solos in a variety of different keys and styles to increase your repertoire of licks and improve your ability to improvise in different musical contexts

COURSE OVERVIEW

Mini Solos

For a lot of guitar players, building a library of licks they can use when improvising is a big challenge.

Learning licks in the traditional way can help here, but to really improve your musical vocabulary, it is important to understand how the licks you are playing are created and why they are so effective.

In this way you can apply them in your own playing and create endless variations to vastly increase your library of licks and turn you into a skilled improviser.

In this course I play through 10 mini solos in different keys and styles.

You get the tabs and backing tracks for the solos I play, as well as a detailed breakdown on what is happening in the track, and the musical choices I make in my solos.

What you will learn:

PART 1

In this first lesson I run through the philosophy of learning licks, and the most effective approach you can take when trying to build your musical vocabulary

PART 2

The first mini solo is played over a blues pop backing track in the key of A minor. Here you will learn how to lock into the groove with your playing and create smooth legato ideas across the fretboard

PART 3

In this second solo I play over a funky jazz blues track in the key of E. Here you will learn how to create licks in the open position and leave spacing in your phrasing

PART 4

In this third solo I play over a groovy Aeolian blues track in the key of C minor. Here you will learn how to move beyond the minor pentatonic scale and use the Aeolian mode in your solos

My story

I have played guitar for over 20 years and have loved blues music for just as long.

5 years ago – after getting complacent with my practice and playing, I decided I wanted to push on with my playing.

I started to document my journey and share tips on gear, practice and playing.

To my joy, that helped to turn me into a full time Bluesman.

I have since gone on to work with hundreds of blues guitarists all over the world through the Blues Club and 1-2-1 coaching.
