The Essentials Of Fretboard Navigation – Part II

Learn further concepts to help you navigate across your fretboard with freedom

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Essentials Of Fretboard Navigation – Part II

If you want to play with freedom, it is essential to understand your fretboard.

This will improve every element of your playing and musicianship; from your ability to improvise to playing interesting rhythm parts.

In the second part of this course, we will be looking at fretboard connections you can use to start navigating across your guitar.

Specifically, we will be looking at octave shapes, and how you can use these practically in your playing.

So if you are currently feeling lost on the fretboard, dive in and start navigating around the fretboard with confidence!

What you will learn:

PART 1

To begin with, we will briefly recap the first section of this course and set the scene for the connections covered in this course; what they are and why they are so useful

PART 2

In this first lesson you will learn how to build octave shapes from your E and A strings. In this way you can connect notes on these strings to those on the D and G strings

PART 3

Moving on, we will build on our initial octave shape and look at how to navigate from here to the B and E strings

PART 4

In this lesson you will learn the final octave shape which will help you move down from the treble to the bass strings

PART 5

Here we will look at how these 3 connections stack them together, how you can practice them and how you can use them to navigate across the fretboard

PART 6

To finish the course off, we will study the practical benefits of this knowledge, and how you can use this to craft licks, motifs and target different textures in your playing

My story

I have played guitar for over 20 years and have loved blues music for almost just as long.

5 years ago – after getting complacent with my practice and playing – I decided I wanted to push on and develop as a guitarist.

I couldn’t find the detailed, blues focused resources that I wanted to learn from online, so I created the Happy Bluesman.

I have since gone on to work with hundreds of blues guitarists all over the world through the Blues Club and 1-2-1 coaching.
