The B.B. King Box – An Ultimate Guide

The B.B. King Box – An Ultimate Guide

Learn to play like the King of the Blues and add a beautiful, warm sound to your lead playing by mastering the B.B. King Box

COURSE OVERVIEW

The B.B. King Box – An Ultimate Guide

“The King Of The Blues” – amongst many other things – is known for his beautiful and mellow sounding blues licks.

B.B. King’s playing has a warm and upbeat sound which can be difficult to recreate using just the minor pentatonic scale.

If you want to craft those same singing lines and develop a more versatile lead style, then getting to grips with the B.B. King Box is one of the best places to start.

In this course you’ll learn what the B.B. King Box is and how you can use it in your playing. You’ll also learn a number of licks and a solo that use the box, to help you start playing like the king of the blues himself!

What you will learn:

PART 1

In this first lesson we will look at what the B.B. King Box is, and how it can help to transform your lead blues playing

PART 2

Here we will dig a little deeper and look at the intervals contained within the B.B. King Box, and how it functions from a theoretical perspective

PART 3

Time to start dialling in some beautiful blues licks! Here you will learn  3 different ways to use the box and start crafting your own phrases

PART 4

As a bonus, learn to combine the notes of the B.B. King Box alongside the Albert King Box and mix the sounds of these two blues masters in your playing

PART 5

In this lesson you will learn a beautiful and restrained sounding lick you can use every time you start a solo in the B.B. King Box.

PART 6

Moving on from the first lick, you’ll learn another phrase perfect for starting your improvisations

PART 7

Here you’ll learn a transition style lick that is perfect to place in the middle of your solo and connect different ideas

PART 8

Time to pick up the pace a little! Here you will learn a faster lick that perfectly captures King’s upbeat style

PART 9

To finish up, you’ll learn another fast phrase that is perfect to give a little boost of momentum to your improvisations

PART 10

In this final lesson you will learn the full solo that I play at the beginning of this course and how you can create similar ideas in your own improvisations

My story

I have played blues guitar for over 20 years and have loved blues music for just as long.

5 years ago – after getting complacent with my playing, I decided I wanted to push on and improve as a guitarist.

I started to document my journey and share tips on gear, practice and playing.

To my joy, that helped me turn into a full time Bluesman.

I have since gone on to work with hundreds of blues guitarists all over the world through the Blues Club and 1-2-1 coaching.
