Learn how to play the solo in ‘Need Your Love So Bad’ and improvise in the style of Peter Green

COURSE OVERVIEW

Need Your Love So Bad Solo Sessions

Learning the solos of your favourite players is one of the best ways of developing your musical repertoire.

It will help you to build a vocabulary of ‘go-to’ licks that you can use in your solos and improvisations, and develop your lead guitar technique.

In this course we will do a deep dive into the beautiful playing style of Peter Green – one of my favourite guitarists and one whom I think is greatly underrated.

This will help you to learn a variety of nuanced lead guitar techniques, and to appreciate how to solo over a delicate major blues chord progression.

What you will learn:

PART 1

In this first lesson we will cover the history of this song, and why studying this song will help develop your blues playing

PART 2

Here we will cover the key, chord progression and scales used in the song. This will help you appreciate what Green is doing and set you up to improvise over the track

PART 3

Peter Green has one of the most iconic Les Paul tones of all time. Study the gear Green used, and how you can recreate similar tones to suit your budget and setup

PART 4

Learn the beautiful opening phrase of the solo and appreciate its complexities and nuances

PART 5

Study how Green uses repetition and dynamics to breathe life into this short second phrase

PART 6

Tackle a series of challenging bends in the most complicated phrase of the solo

PART 7

Appreciate how Peter Green uses the B.B. King Box to move between the major and minor pentatonic scales in a smooth and musical way

PART 8

Finish the solo off with a series of ascending dyads. Learn how these are built and how they can add a sophisticated, melodic feel to your playing

PART 9

Learn how to build upon and adapt all of the ideas you have learnt throughout to craft your own interesting solos over Need Your Love So Bad

My story

I have played guitar for over 20 years and have loved blues music for just as long.

5 years ago – after getting complacent with my practice and playing, I decided I wanted to push on with my playing.

I started to document my journey and share tips on gear, practice and playing.

To my joy, that helped to turn me into a full time Bluesman.

I have since gone on to work with hundreds of blues guitarists all over the world through the Blues Club and 1-2-1 coaching.
