The Major Scale & Why It Matters
Learning and understanding the major scale will transform your guitar playing and understanding of music.
From a theoretical perspective, you will understand how music ‘works’. You will develop a clear understanding of how chords are created and songs are formed.
From a practical perspective, learning the major scale will enable you to play the modes. This opens up a whole new world of opportunity and allows you to create different textures and feels in your playing.

What you will learn:
PART 1
In this first lesson we will define what the major scale is, and why it is of fundamental importance
PART 2
Before learning the shapes of the scale, we will study its construction and how it compares to the pentatonic scales with which you are likely to be familiar
PART 3
In this lesson you will learn the first shape of the major scale in the key of A. You will also see the strong connection that exists between this shape and those of the major pentatonic scale
PART 4
Moving on and up the fretboard, in this lesson you will get comfortable with the second shape of the scale
PART 5
Here you will learn the third shape of the major scale, in addition to a practice method you can use to consolidate the shapes you have learnt so far
PART 6
You will learn the fourth shape of the major scale and continue to draw connections between this scale and the shapes of the more familiar major pentatonic
PART 7
In this lesson you will learn the fifth and final shape of the major scale using the closed position fingerings we have focused on throughout
PART 8
Unlike pentatonic scale shapes, there are two ways of playing the major scale. In this lesson we will study the
PART 9
In the final lesson of this course, we will set the scene for future material – looking at how you can use the major scale to build chord progressions and play the modes
